Bed bugs are blood-sucking insects. They have a flattened oval-shaped body and are reddish-brown in color. Approximately the size of an apple seed, these tiny insects have microscopic hairs that give them a striped appearance. They are nocturnal, blood-feeding creatures who prefer human blood over other types.
However, bed bugs are not known to carry or transmit diseases to humans. Frequently, their bites leave behind tiny red bumps that appear in a line or cluster, causing minor to severe skin irritation. If infected, bed bug bites should be treated medically.
